Deep Blue & Red Handwoven Double Ikkat Cotton
Deep Blue & Red Handwoven Double Ikkat Cotton
In shades of deep blue, faded blue, red, & maroon, this handwoven Double Ikkat saree in pure cotton is dyed with naturally occurring pigments which create an unparalleled richness in the fabric. The borders of the saree feature a chequered pattern, while the palla contrasts the blue of the body with pale red & maroon diamonds in stripes.
In the Double Ikkat technique from India, both the warp and the weft are resist-dyed before they touch the loom — a process that is both immensely laborious and incredibly rewarding. Through the repeated and impeccably precise method of tie-dyeing designs, the complex designs and iconic geometry of the much-coveted Double Ikkat weave emerge. Did you know? Authentic Double Ikkat weaves are undertaken by master artisans in only three countries around the world at the moment: Indonesia, India, and Japan.
Our handwoven Double Ikkat cottons are a modern take on an age-old traditional weave whose legacy spans the breadth of a rich & complex history of weaving, draping, trade, and artistic culture in the subcontinent.
Note: The blouse piece for this saree is attached. The model is wearing a separate blouse for styling purposes only.
